Killing The Dream Reviews

In Place Apart Reviews

Hardcore purists will surely be drawn to this group's potent, energetic sound on 'In Place Apart', as Killing The Dream prove that they can dish out angst-laden hardcore like it's nobody's business. Hardcore songs are often short in terms of length by nature and that's the biggest complaint about this record, there are 12 songs in only twenty-five minutes. Twenty-five minutes of music is simply not enough for a full length effort, by any stretch of the imagination.

There is a great deal of heart behind the band's overall sound and that might be the factor that matters most to fans of hardcore. Killing The Dream issue an abundant share of intensity as they rage through cuts like the rabid 'Critical Thought' and the driving 'Post Script.' As this fine puppy was produced by Kurt Ballou at Godcity Studios, the band's chaotic strains maintain the perfect tones and balanced mix that is necessary for this style of music. Ballou does a commendable job of knob-turning as always, much to the benefit of Killing The Dream.

However this record is there and gone before you know it and if you blink, you're likely to miss solid thrashers like 'Ante Up', which is barely over one minute and thirty seconds or 'Writers Block', which leads you to believe that that's just what the band had, ending in just over one minute. Still, this album has it's great moments like 'If It Rains' and 'Past The Stars' and would fit nicely into any serious hardcore enthusiast's collection.
