Neurosis Inc. Reviews

Subversivos Espirituales Reviews

Neurosis Inc., a melodic death/trash metal band from Columbia founded in 1987, is not to be confused with Neurosis, the hardcore band formed in San Francisco in 1985. Though both bands share a similar name, they do not exactly share a similar style, especially since Neurosis Inc. sings mostly in Spanish.

Obviously Neurois Inc. are fans of the thrash metal scene with track 3 on their newest lease 'Subversions Espirituales' actually being titled 'Thrash metal'(yes, in English). While this band has the traditional Death/Thrash metal sound of greats like Napalm Death, Slayer and Suffocation, it also has the more revolutionary punk elements of bands like Brujeria. It also has that sort of low quality, raw recording sound like Brujeria which gives the music that dangerous quality, like you're listening to some banned and pirated copy of a satanic ritual or kidnapping. Mix all that with some black and progressive metal and you have 'Subversions Espirituales'.

The listener hears definite elements of Slayer and Suffocation throughout the album, although judging from how long this band has been around who knows who influenced who. The band is also not afraid to throw in the progressive elements, take songs like 'Hijo de la Patria' (or 'Son of the Mother country' as it is translated in English) that have some classical, melodic break downs mixed within the fast paced blast beats and shredding. Neurosis Inc. even gets completely progressive during some songs like 'Subversivos Espirituales' boasting operatic keyboards and guitar layers through out the entire song.

The progressive elements on 'Subversivos Espirituales' do not diminish the raw, Thrash metal quality of it at all, but death and trash metal purists might still be upset by it. All in all it's a good listen if you have an open mind and a love for fast paced shredding.
