This is an immensely killer re-release of the debut album by the band that gave metal a kick in the ass with this vicious debut simply entitled Killswitch Engage. The album has been remixed, remastered and repackaged resulting in a tremendous metal package that touches upon the finest elements of thrash, hardcore and just plain heavy metal in general. Back in the day, when this gem was originally put before the metal buying public, a gentleman named Jesse Leach fronted the group with a fury, offering huge sounding agro vocals and soaring melodic singing that served to provide Killswitch with its psychotic and aggressively tremendous personality. The retouched cover artwork includes lyrics and a hella cool front cover which is completely befitting of the music contained within.
As if it were not enough to retouch these classic tunes and release them on their own (which still would have made for a superb release), Ferret has included the band's 1999 four song demo as a bonus, giving fans further insight as to the evolution of these thunderous tunes. From the striking introduction of 'Temple From The Within' to the urgent, bombastic 'Vide Infra' and the thrashed out core of 'Soilborn', this album is a one hundred percent spine dislodging, kick-to-the-head that is filled with intensity, passion and fury from the second the record begins until the final note. Leach's vocals are chaotic and boundless on 'Numb Sickened Eyes' a track filled with hardcore intensity and featuring a fist banging chorus that emphasizes the group's face forward strains of anguish and anger unrestrained.
You'll find the band toying with a dark ambience on 'One Last Sunset', a song with a brooding introduction and some skilled instrumentation that gives the listener a feeling that is a sheer, cold loneliness. The demo tracks offer a lot of insight as to the band's roots. 'Prelude' comes off as much more Sabbath sounding, guitar wise, while the demo version of 'Soilborn' is raw yet unrelenting. These demo tracks made their way around Audiogalaxy a few years ago, but if you weren't lucky enough to catch them then, no sweat, it's all here! If all of this skull bashing isn't enough for you, also included is a compilation CD containing some of the cream of the current metalcore crop, including Zao, Every Time I Die, Remembering Never and an out of print track from Dillinger Escape Plan, '4th Grade Dropout' that you won't be finding anywhere else. The Winter 2005 Ferret Records Sampler features eleven tracks in all, making this massive metal release an hugely impressive and historically relevant addition to your record collection.
