Misanthropos Reviews
Manic and dissonant sonic emanations form Paria of Omaha, Nebraska here on their debut full length disc. The band utilizes rapid time signature changes and guitar acrobatics in an effort to distance themselves from the pack. Their melting pot of influences runs the gamut of sonic possibilities from atmospheric breaks, to doomy interludes then fully automatic shredding death. Paria are very experimental in their approach to songwriting. '…Human Error' is pure jazzcore while 'Dancing To The Sounds Of Screams' is a blasting effort that will pummel your eardrums with its utter savagery.
'Seeds Planted In Concrete' is the similar to the type of metalcore that seems to be growing more popular each day, but with a deathy edge that many of Paria's contemporaries lack. Near the end of this song, the instruments mimic black metal fretboard antics, and the dissonant guitar breaks are similar in tone to an extremely violent version of the technique employed by Voivod's Piggy. 'A torn instance features some very impressive finger tapping that adds further dimension to the group's schizophrenic style.
The groups willingness to experiment with contrasting themes is quite admirable, however Paria might be a bit too overboard for unadventurous listeners. Those who are drawn to the band that have just hopped onto the metalcore express will either find this release too eclectic, though transversely, this may broaden the musical horizons of those just getting into this form of metal. For those of you who have been engaged in listening to these types of artists for some time, Paria are a chaotic, bombastic assault that is a superlative listen.
