Littered With Arrows Reviews
Destroyer Destroyer's second full length and debut album on Goodfellow Records takes on the full boar noise calamity that sometimes can be considered grind. The band is a assault of the noisiest aspects of distortion at blistering speeds thrown into one big pile of "I'm not quite sure what is going on here". While that sensation can be intriguing in the technical way of music, that is unfortunately not the case for the band's new album "Littered With Arrows".
I am unsure as to how many of you have heard of The Sawtooth Grin but essentially, Destroyer Destroyer seems to be lift off's of that. That quality is not a bad thing but it's in the manner that they attempt to capture the chaotic while still professing their own assault of grind. While normally I would give a thumbs up to such a chainsaw being thrown into a vat of metal and kittens sound, "Littered With Arrows" does not pull it off in a very thrilling way. Instead it's just mass confusion put to disc and a band that is trying to be abrasive as they possibly can. I give a big approval to the vocals which are searing jolts of pitched whales and hollering that make my throat feel sore just listening to it.
It's fortunate for listeners that this disc is in the vein of grind and being so the songs are not entirely too long which some find to be the stamp of grind. The problem here is that you can have a 53 second long track or a 5 minute long track, if the songs do not deliver then it doesn't matter.
While I am appreciative at the musical ability of Destroyer Destroyer, it's very clear what their approach is and what they are aiming for. This might convince some fans that they are "brutal" and such but brutality can only say so much for the sound and not enough for the actual quality of song as a whole.
