The Split Program II Reviews
It stands to reason that this split will send the metalcore kids, particularly those of Europe (where each of these bands enjoy tremendous followings), will be drawn toward this release like bees to a hive. The saddest thing about this record is that American kids are just starting to wake up to each of these groups but much as the first installment in this series ignited metal hearts in Germany and across the European continent, it is more than likely that this offering will be a call to arms for those fans who can appreciate the mixture of talent and musical charisma that both Heaven Shall Burn and Caliban possess. Heaven Shall Burn often sound like In Flames' little brother, with abrasive tracks such as 'No One Will Shed A Tear' and 'Destroy Fascism' hit hard, the latter coming off as much more hardcore sounding than the majority of their portion of the split. But, HSB are well tuned to dynamics, and the band throw more than enough variety into the mix to keep things interesting. Coming out like a rabid animal ready to fight, Caliban get right to work with 'The Revenge', which features a chorus that is trademark Caliban, while the for the rest of the track, the listener is treated to throaty growls and raspy barking that's sure to get your mad on. The doomy introduction to 'A Summer Dream' gives the Caliban side of the split a strong sense of depth that paves the way for massive chugging and a chaotic, pounding chorus. This second episode of skull smashing sounds is more than sufficient. In the end, the only clear winner is the metal listener as each of these killer young bands more than have what it takes to get your blood pumping.
