Antebellum Death'n Roll Reviews

I remember not really enjoying the last Phazm album and maybe it's because I didn't give it a chance or maybe it was because I was impatient. Either way, when I received the band's latest effort "Antebellum Death'n Roll" which boasts a cover of goofy silhouette skeletons fucking eachother and women with huge raging boners I couldn't help to give em' another try.

With this second attempt I still don't find the band to be anything that's worth listening to more than once but I must admit that sometimes there is enough rock o this disc to almost convince me otherwise. I think this is what it would be like if Scissorfight went death metal but not as good. Definitely a well humored band, Phazm choose the not so serious route which is good on their part because to take this seriously would be missing the point.

There is a certain element in this album when the real rockin' parts hit that just make you fall for it. While I don't see this release really being anything special it does offer moments of well fused death metal and rock. The only problem one might have with this disc is that the sound the band offers is a very static ridden which helps in the bass department but in the guitar section it could be cleaned up a little bit to add extra kick to those death n' roll parts. However, the band makes it work for them as you will hear in certain passages that use that fuzzy sound to their advantage.

Phazm's sophomore effort brings them closer to a direction that better suits them. If this band was a more straightforward death metal act then it wouldn't be nearly as exciting.
